CURFEW

The City of Sparks' curfew ordinance states that "a minor” (any person under 18 years of age) commits an offense if he remains in any public place or on the premises of any establishment within the city during curfew hours.

A parent or guardian of a minor commits an offense if he knowingly permits, or by insufficient control allows, the minor to remain in any public place or on the premises of any establishment within the city during curfew hours.

The owner, operator or any employee of an establishment commits an offense if he knowingly allows a minor to remain upon the premises of the establishment during curfew hours."

Curfew hours means:
11:00 p.m. on any Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday until 6:00 a.m. of the following day;
12:01 a.m. until 5:00 a.m. on Friday and Saturday night.

This law is strictly enforced in Sparks.

If minors are picked up for violation of curfew, they will receive a citation and then must be released to a parent or guardian.  If a parent or guardian cannot be located, the juvenile is transported to Juvenile Hall in Reno, where they will remain until a parent or guardian can be located.  After receiving the citation or being picked up from Juvenile Hall, a court date is scheduled for the minor to appear in front of a judge at the Washoe County Juvenile Court.  This court appearance also requires the appearance of the parent or guardian.
