The Larry D. Johnson Community Center officially opened its doors to the public in 2007. The facility features a modern design with plenty of natural light, and has two multi-purpose rooms, the Mt. Rose Fitness Center, a teen drop-in center called The Club and a dance/aerobic room.
The Parks and Recreation Department has collaborated with the Boys and Girls Club of Truckee Meadows to provide the 1,900 square foot teen drop-in center located on the second floor of the facility. Teens have access to special programs and an area to play pool, work out and interact with other members. The Club at Larry D. Johnson Community Center also has a computer lab and quiet area for homework.
Construction on phase one of the $4.5 million project began in June 2006. Two additional phases will be built when the funds become available. The Community Center is named after fallen police officer Larry D. Johnson, who lost his life in 1995 in the line of duty.

Room Rentals
Multipurpose space is available for rent at the Larry D. Johnson Community Center for small parties, meetings, scrapbooking, etc. Each of the multipurpose rooms has tables, chairs, sink, counters, dry erase boards and 37-inch LCD television with DVD player available.
