SPARKS IS LOOKING FOR A FEW GOOD CITIZENS

Sparks, NV - The Sparks Mayor and City Council welcome community input and service on various boards and commissions.  "We can't govern alone and need input and expertise from members of our community," said Sparks Mayor Geno Martini.
 
The following city appointed positions are currently available:
 
Sparks Parks & Recreation Commission – Two appointments to begin July 1, 2010.  Each is a three-year term.  The purpose of the Sparks Parks & Recreation Commission is to review and provide input on the department budget and parks and recreation programs, and recommend improvements to the City's parks and playgrounds.
 
Civil Service Commission - One appointment to begin July 1, 2010.  This is a three-year term.  The purpose of the Civil Service Commission is to provide qualified applicants for employment and to protect employees from discrimination or unfair treatment.
 
Advisory Committee for the Disabled – Four appointments are available.  Each is a one-year term to begin on July 1, 2010.   The purpose of the Sparks Advisory Committee for the Disabled is to promote awareness, develop accessibility and independence within the City of Sparks for the disabled.  The Committee works closely with the community to recommend or advise action to the Sparks City Council or other City agencies on any issue concerning the disabled population.
 
Sparks residents can apply on-line by accessing the Community Service Application.  Log on to www.cityofsparks.us, click GOVERNING, followed by BOARDS/COMMISSIONS/GET INVOLVED.  Or contact the City Clerk's office at 353-2350.
 
The Sparks Mayor makes the respective appointments, which must be confirmed by the City Council.
