CITY OF SPARKS TO HOST HERSHEY'S TRACK AND FIELD GAMES QUALIFYING MEET

Sparks, NV - The Sparks Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting Hershey's Track and Field Games' state qualifying meet on Saturday, June 12 at the Northern Nevada Regional Track Facility at Reed High School. Boys and girls age 9-14 are invited to participate in the free program designed to encourage physical fitness and emphasize participation and sportsmanship.
 
Events include the 50-meter dash, 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, 400-meter dash, 800-meter run, 1600-meter run, 4 x 100-meter relay, standing long jump and softball throw. Certificates are given to every participant, and ribbons are awarded to the top eight male and female finishers in each event.
 
First place finishers in each age division will be placed in a regional pool of state finalists eligible to be selected for a regional team which travels to Hershey (all expenses paid), to compete in the North American Final later in the summer. All regional winners will qualify for the meet.  
 
The Hershey's Track & Field Games is the largest youth sports program of its kind in North America. More than 400,000 children participate annually through local, district, state and provincial track and field meets held in each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the 10 provinces and 3 territories of Canada.
